Spike Lee, Elizabeth Olsen and Michael Imperioli Talk Oldboy

November 27, 2013 @ 11:19 am

(SPOILER ALERT: If you have not seen either Spike Lee’s Oldboy or the original Korean film you might want to wait to listen to these interviews as plot elements are mentioned. You have been warned)

Oldboy is one of the best movies of the year and definitely the craziest. Unlike most film-buffs, I saw this version first, and was glad I did because it gave me different perspective from most people covering the film. I watched the original two days later and then went to the Conrad Hotel in New York City to discuss the film with it’s director Spike Lee, as well as it’s stars Elizabeth Olsen and Michael Imperioli.

First up, Spike discusses the film as a whole as well as some of the differences between his version and the original. Next, Elizabeth Olsen takes us behind the curtain of a sex scene and talks about what is was like working with the much older Josh Brolin. Last but not least, a dream come true for this die-hard Sopranos fan as after Michael Imperioli tells me about working with Spike for the sixth time he briefly discusses the greatest show of all time, his dear friend the late James Gandolfini and in what form, if ever, David Chase would ever consider bringing back the show.

This is a LOADED podcast that you do not want to miss if you are a fan of either Oldboy film. Oldboy is in theaters NOW and the original is on Netflix so check them out and them take A Shot of Yager!

Oldboy’s Pom Klementieff

November 25, 2013 @ 5:50 pm

(SPOILER ALERT: It's best if you have seen Oldboy, either the original, the remake, or both, before listening to these podcasts)
In part one of our THREE PART podcast series dedicated to Spike Lee’s Oldboy I sit down with the bright young starlet making her Hollywood debut in the film, Ms. Pom Klementieff. The beautiful French/Korean actress plays a “bad guy” in the film, serving as the evil Sharlto Copley’s security guard and love interest, a part that was played by a man in the Korean film that Oldboy is based on. I think I speak for everyone when I say that I am glad screenwriter Mark Protosevich decided to go with Pom instead of...Tom. Pom controls the screen with her silent intensity in each of her scenes while also providing a great deal of mystique and intrigue, both to Josh Brolin’s character Joe who is fresh out of captivity as well as the audience as a whole. Get to know the woman under the bright yellow umbrella as Pom talks to me about her multi-cultural heritage, growing up in France, learning English through Tina Fey’s 30 Rock, watching the original Oldboy as a girl, how she got the part, her favorite actors and actresses and much more! Nicknamed “The Pom-inator” for good reason, Pom kicks some serious ass in Spike Lee’s Oldboy and although she is definitely the type of girl any guy would want to get close to, she also shows you what will happen to you if you get TOO close! Follow Pom on twitter @PomKlementieff and look out for her on the silver screen as Oldboy is sure to only be the beginning of movie-goers eating out of the POM of her hand for years to come!

Daniele Bolelli aka The Drunken Taoist

November 19, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

About a year and a half ago Daniele Bolelli came on A Shot of Yager (available here) in the midst of a book tour that brought him into the eyes, minds and hearts of podcast fans of guys like Adam Carolla and Joe Rogan. It’s on these shows that I was first introduced to the sweet sound of Daniele’s Italian insight on religion and other aspects of life and realized I had to have him on. His book, 50 Things You’re Not Supposed to Know About Religion served not only as the podcast world’s introduction to Mr. Bolelli but also as the gateway to his newest book, Create Your Own Religion, released earlier this year. Since appearing on this show (I take full credit) Daniele Bolelli has started his own podcast empire with The Drunken Taoist, a very popular program of his own, that poses the same questions and sparks the same debates that has made him a popular reoccurring guest on one of the shows that inspired me to begin podcasting as well, The Joe Rogan Experience (who Daniele truly holds responsible for his success). Daniele returns here to discuss his podcast, his books, the upcoming movies being made about Noah and Moses and much more! Since Daniele and I are both big MMA fans, Daniele being a martial artist himself, we also spend some time talking about the controversial Johnny Hendricks vs George St. Pierre fight from UFC 167 this past Saturday. A fun show as always so pour yourself a drink and enjoy the ramblings of myself and the The Drunken Taoist, Mr. Daniele Bolelli! Follow Daniele on twitter @DBolelli and check out his podcast on iTunes and
